Halloween Costumes

We went Cincinnati Zoo Sunday night for the annual Hall-zoo-ween celebration. There’s a lot of stuff for kids to do and local companies give out handouts. While walking around the park, my daughter made a simple observation: “Some people dressed up like they were at Disney World…and some people didn’t.” My diva daughter dressed as the Little Mermaid.

My daughter speaks with a lot of experience. She has visited Walt Disney World several times because my sister works there.

Bengals Big Start

After a horrible pre-season, the Bengals did the City of Cincinnati proud with a strong 4-0 start. It is amazing the difference in attitude with team since Marvin Lewis took over the reigns. I think the single key decision that he did was to delay start Carson Palmer as quarter back. He got a lot of criticism over this decision but in the long run it was worthwhile from a franchise perspective. Cincinnati has had a reputation of killing the hopes and dreams of first-rounders.

Short Term C# Memory

My co-worker Ben has a short-term memory about Custom Build Steps in his VB.NET rant. He complains that VB.NET has no build steps…which is a big gap, in my opinion. I don’t understand why this was left out. It really has nothing to do with semicolons…it’s just a macro. I have always accomplished this with a C+ nmake project.

I say “short-term memory” because of it wasn’t available in C# in VS 2002. Reference HOW TO: Implement Build Events in Visual C# .NET which tells you how to work around the limitation that was available in 1.0 with C# and VB.NET.

Loose Teeth

Last night, my 4 year old daughter discovered her front lower teeth “wiggled.” Soon she’ll have her first visit from the Tooth Fairy.

Superbowl Hightlights

The Superbowl was a decent game this year. I was overall pretty impressed with Terrell Owens performance despite his ankle. However, Donavan McNabb didn’t eat enough Chunky Soup to finish. He needs to watch some old school tape of how to run a 2-minute drill. I recommend “The Drive” by John Elway.

As for the commercials…they were pretty tame. I enjoyed the cat with the spaghetti sauce the best. Thank god, Paul McCartney didn’t have a wardrobe malfunction.

Noise word

My wife tried to do an opinion survey yesterday but was unable to. She got this error:

Our word filters are having difficulty with the last name Your. If you’ve made a mistake, please correct your last name and try again. If you feel you have received this message in error, please contact us at help@winfreestuff.com.

Sometimes it doesn’t help when your last name is a noise word.

Switched to digital phone

Time Warner, our cable company has offered for a couple months now Digital Phone. For $35 a month, we get unlimited long distance, etc., etc. I have Road Runner and cable with them and have had no problems whatsoever. However, our phone company has been pricks to deal with. There is wide gap in customer service between the two. For example, when we moved into our house, the phone company needed 3 weeks notice and a 8 hour window of my “availability” to transfer service. TW, on the other hand, did it the next day with a scheduled appointment in which they were right on time.

Blog engine switch.

For the last 2 years my website had used as a custom blog implementation. It was fun to write but was very basic and limited. Consequently, I never leveraged the blog experience and updated it infrequently. I think the major reason was the inability to compose (easily) offline and post later.

dasBlog seemed like an obvious choice for me. Its best feature was is its ability to poll an email account and then extract the contents, including images.
